CASE STUDY
Disparate dataset unification for rapid global analysis
Common Logistics Operating Picture
The Challenge
The client needed a toolset capable of supporting Defence in supplying units and operations through a single source of truth and a common operating picture. Information relating to ports, fuels, asset basing, overflight and supporting equipment was dispersed across structured and unstructured systems. Many data sources were under-exploited due to limited digital integration and inconsistent metadata, which restricted Defence's ability to conduct data fusion, complex queries and rapid analytical exploitation. Users across Defence required timely access to authoritative information as well as improved interoperability between existing planning tools.

The Squarcle Solution
Squarcle adopted an agile DevOps approach, incorporating user feedback throughout development.
We integrated structured data queries from relational databases and ETL pipelines with machine learning techniques that automatically extracted and contextualised unstructured PDF data. Data scraping and natural language processing models were used to classify and standardise text-based information so it could be fused into a coherent enterprise data model.
We developed the application within Palantir’s cloud environment to integrate disparate datasets across the Defence support enterprise into a user friendly and intelligent system. Squarcle also produced onboarding guidance, video demonstrations and technical documentation to support adoption, training and onward enhancement across Defence.
The Results
Squarcle delivered a fully exploitable, schema-driven data model with a geospatial interface that enabled rapid exploitation by users across Defence.
The solution provided integrated visibility of fuels, ports, ABO and ACHE data, creating a full view of the logistics landscape. Automated routing, course of action exploration, option ranking and natural language driven search capabilities allowed users to understand and interrogate information quickly.
A high quality user interface ensured that personnel could access the information most relevant to their role. Users were onboarded to provide feedback for ongoing refinement. The combination of Squarcle’s supply chain expertise, data engineering capability and cloud-native application development contributed directly to project success and delivered improved decision making, increased resilience and greater interoperability across Defence.

Squarcle staff docked in superbly to the support Operations team at the heart of the MoD to deliver improved data services and enhances decision-support tools to our senior leaders.
